Can’t stop listening to this song. Not because of the lyrics, even though they’re intriguing – I like these verses, for example: Don’t, no don’t try to get yourself elected. If you do, you had better cut your hair. So rooted in the 70s.
It’s the music that keeps pulling me in. And the icy-hard edge on David Crosby’s voice – compared to the honeyed harmonies they make when all three of them sing together. I’ve been mostly listening to the recording on their Crosby, Stills & Nash album, and I couldn’t figure out whose voice was singing the lead part. In their harmonies, their voices are so sweet, and they blend so well, that I never thought about their individual voices before. So I found this live performance on YouTube, and because it’s a video, I could see that it was David Crosby singing.
| It’s been a long time coming It’s going to be a long time gone And it appears to be a long Appears to be a long Appears to be a long time It’s a long, long, long, long time Before the dawn Turn any corner Hear what the people say You know that something is going on around here It surely, surely, surely won’t stand the light of day And it appears to be a long Appears to be a long Appears to be a long Such a long, long time Before the dawnSpeak out! You got to speak out against the madness You got to speak your mind If you dare |
Don’t, no don’t try to get yourself elected If you do, you had better cut your hair And it appears to be a long Appears to be a long Appears to be a long time Such a long, long, long, long time Before the dawnIt’s been a long time coming It’s going to be a long time gone But you know, the darkest hour Is always just before the dawn And it appears to be a long Appears to be a long Appears to be a long time Such a long, long, long, long time Before the dawn |
